Suffering from the lack for the sense of the meaning of life is a special form of emotional, cognitive, and spiritual suffering. Although all human beings share the same basic human need for some meaning of life, the fulfilment of this need is highly individual and personal. The search for meaning in life is a Human life is not perspective is informed my scientific research over the past ten years with people who have undergone what I call “suffering Meaning in Suffering: Caring Practices in the Health Professions. University of Wisconsin Press, 2007. We all know what suffering is—no human life is without suffering of some kind. When we try to define it, however, as with many philosoph-ical enquiries, just what suffering is becomes unclear. I believe that the purpose of life is to be happy. From the moment of birth, every human being wants happiness and does not want suffering. Neither social conditioning nor education nor ideology affect this. From the very core of our being, we simply desire contentment. Without suffering and death human life cannot be complete. The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity — even under the most difficult circumstances — to add a deeper meaning to his life. It may remain brave, dignified and unselfish. If there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. Suffering is an ineradicable part of life, even as fate and death. Without suffering and death, human life cannot be complete. There is an interesting incident- the man who was in depression due to his wife’s death consulted with Frankl. Some are of the opinion that there is no deeper meaning to life, and therefore suffering is pointless, or at least pointless when there is no expected beneficial outcome. At the extreme opposite to that stands the deeply mysterious view that human suffering is the very gateway through which we must pass in order to develop our higher faculties. The problem of suffering is challenging, and people often wonder how a kind, loving God can allow suffering. Responses to suffering are deeply personal and evoke strong emotions, but the Bible offers examples that reveal not only the mystery of human suffering, but God’s eternal perspective. Let's look at 10 things the Bible says about suffering and how we should respond so that we our faith And that is how we, as Christians, can find meaning and purpose in suffering, what before we might have thought was totally useless. In the great apostolic letter of Pope St. John Paul II on the Christian meaning of human suffering, we read the following: “Human suffering has reached its … Struggle Is What Gives Us Meaning And Makes Us Human. Your purpose in life is to face the suffering, Stop looking for the meaning of your life in other things. Look into yourself, find the life path that is filled with hard work, sacrifices, and suffering, and run in that direction. Human Suffering as a Challenge for the Meaning of life Ulrich Diehl Publiziert in EXISTENZ, Volume 4, Nr. 2, Fall 2009 Internet Journal for Philosophy of the PAIDEIA Project at Boston University In St. Paul ’s writings we find a greatly developed meaning of suffering. For Paul to live is gain because while he suffers in this life he is imitating Christ and becoming more Christ-like. Indeed! The Buddha never said that “life is suffering,” just that there is suffering in life. His teaching is about accepting inevitable suffering (the vinegar) with grace and with a peaceful mind, while allowing joy to arise naturally when conditions allow. “Life is suffering” is … “If there is meaning in life at all, then there must be meaning in suffering. Suffering is an ineradicable part of life, even as fate and death. Without suffering and death human life cannot be complete.” ∼Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning, Page 67 A creative life and a life of enjoyment are banned to him. But not only creativeness and enjoyment are meaningful. If there is meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. Suffering is an ineradicable part of life, even as fate and death. Without suffering and death, human life cannot be complete.” This also highlights the divine and human nature of the Church (§24) Whenever we suffer we experience evil and evil is a distortion of the good. Pope John Paul II used the Scriptures in Salvifici Doloris to enter into the Christian meaning of human suffering. The meaning of life according to Viktor Frankl lies in finding a purpose and taking responsibility for ourselves and other human beings. having a clear “why” we can face all the “how” questions of life. Viktor Frankl Quotes on the Meaning of Life, Love, and Suffering “Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence.” – Erich Fromm. When we intuit authority or truth to someone else’s words of wisdom, we could say that we are instinctively judging them on three things. Firstly, the validity of their
